Description

War on Wishbone Range by Charles Alden Seltzer
Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1932.
First Edition. Printed at The Country Life Press.

A beautiful, collector-grade first edition of one of Charles Alden Seltzer’s classic Western novels, exceptionally preserved with its original 1932 dust jacket—a rarity for early Seltzer titles. The dramatic jacket art captures the high-stakes tension of Seltzer’s frontier storytelling: renegades, stolen horses, and the fight to defend honor and homeland.

Seltzer (1875–1942), often called one of the “foundational voices of the American Western,” wrote with authentic grit, moral tension, and frontier realism. This volume exemplifies his style during the peak of his popularity, when Doubleday was publishing some of the finest Western adventure novels of the period.

This copy is in Fine condition, unusually sharp for a 1930s western. Text block is clean, tight, and bright. The dust jacket is Very Good+, showing minimal edge wear and now beautifully preserved in a Brodart archival protector. Owner inscription dated 1934 on front free endpaper. A standout example for collectors of Western Americana, early 20th-century adventure fiction, or Doubleday’s illustrated period jackets.

A scarce survival in this condition.
