Description

Tim Matheson is familiar to generations of viewers as Eric “Otter” Stratton in National Lampoon’s Animal House, Vice President John Hoynes in The West Wing, and Doc Mullins in Virgin River. His memoir follows seven decades of acting and directing, from his early television work to the film and television roles that made him recognizable.

The title comes from Otter’s recurring greeting in Animal House: “Damn glad to meet you.” Delivered with polished confidence and smug, insincere charm, the line captures the character’s habit of turning a friendly introduction into a performance.

Matheson shares stories of working with Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, Steven Spielberg, and Aaron Sorkin, alongside practical lessons about acting and directing. His “film school boot camp” sidebars give readers a closer look at how screen performances and productions come together.
