Description

Sue Spencer recounts the adventures and everyday complications of moving to Sierra Leone with her mining-engineer husband and three sons. Originally drawn from letters to her daughters in the United States, her account combines family news, observations of unfamiliar surroundings, and a willingness to laugh at her own predicaments.

An Alabama native, Spencer accompanied her husband during his work developing a titanium-mining project in West Africa. The result is a personal account of expatriate family life, shaped by the practical demands of raising children while moving between countries.

The playful title and illustrated jacket suit Spencer’s informal storytelling. This August 1964 fifth printing comes from the estate of Doane Perry.
