Description:
A Rainy Night in Rio is a song written by Arthur Schwartz with lyrics by Leo Robin for the Warner Bros. motion picture The Time, the Place and the Girl (1946). Schwartz and Robin were a prominent songwriting team in Hollywood and Broadway, responsible for numerous popular film songs during the golden age of American cinema.

The cover features film-tie-in photography of the movie’s principal performers, including Dennis Morgan, Martha Vickers, Jack Carson, and Janis Paige, along with Carmen Cavallaro, whose orchestra is highlighted in the production. Such covers were designed to capitalize on studio publicity while reinforcing the connection between popular music and cinema.

This original period printing reflects mid-1940s Hollywood music publishing, when sheet music served as both souvenir and promotional extension of a film’s popularity. It survives as a representative example of movie-related popular music from the postwar era.
